“The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9 NASB).
Sometimes it can be difficult to allow the Lord control of our lives. We want to plan and control what we do and where we go, even though, deep inside, we know it is best for us when we follow God’s direction. There is something in this verse that can give us some insight on how God wants to work in our lives. Sure He wants us to trust Him and allow Him to direct us, but He also wants us to be involved.
Here in Proverbs 16:9 the writer is reminding us of our obligation to make plans for our lives. Even when we are totally trusting God we should be planning for our future. God does not expect us to simply pray each morning for our needs, and then sit back, doing little else, and see how He provides. We are to plan our way. It is then that we trust in God to direct our steps in the fulfillment of our plans. This is not to say that we are to make our own plans without heavenly guidance, but it does mean that we are to go out and do what needs to be done to reach the goals God as set before us.
When we are confident in our relationship with Him, then we can plan what to do, and trust in God to lead.
